Initially these will consist of things as simple as a tent so that your people do not have to sleep out in the cold, a hunters lodge to gather raw food, a cook house to turn that raw food into warm healthy meals, and an aid station to treat the most common illnesses.

Once you have gathered enough coal to power your generator you have the option of building several new facilities, each of which will contribute to the survival of your community in one way or another. In every scenario the main goal is to survive the frozen wastes, starting with a small number of people that consists of "workers", "engineers", and "children", and several small caches of supplies from which you can collect the games main resources of steel, coal, and wood. The game has a number of scenarios, although the only one available from the beginning is "A New Home", where you are the leader of a group of citizens who fled London, with subsequent scenarios being unlocked once you have satisfied certain conditions in the preceding one. In "Frostpunk" you are the leader of one such city, having migrated through the frozen wastes from the South.
